The wizard who made music.

Back to those days when the songs of 'Minnale' would boom all through the day in the neighbourhood. As a kid, I had this strange habit of listening to certain sounds and never forget, even little things. Like the noise it makes when a chalk hits the board, the noise when you rub your cricket bat to the ground for the pop-up crease. I used to find them very special(I still do). One such were the soundtracks of Harris and Rahman.
These sounds have somehow preoccupied my mind that somehow the voices of Harish Ragavendra and Mahalakshmi Iyer would already run along the backdrop whenever I'll think of my childhood days. Like a movie in a song but only the music producing the visuals of the movie.
Though I did only listen to the song and never saw how it looked, it could easily evolve around my life that to a point I could only remember my childhood to Harris Jayaraj's "Azhagiya theeye" and "Vaseegara", ARR's "Tu hi re" from Bombay.
And now when I look at Mani Ratnam's 'Alaipayudhey' (for the first time), I wonder where have the soulful music went! Why do I not find an ARR's soundtrack much blissful which could have easily been into my playlist with just the arr tag an year ago! Why is that everyone feels the same?
Reason is we have changed. We like things which elope us to the past or a particular memory you have to certain incidents or people. We like the feels in it. One whose just a second span music would get you nostalgia. One which was magical.
Its not that I have stopped finding a special note in music now. For me, Amit Trivedi's soundtracks does the same thing AR Rahman did at one time. Doesn't mean ARR does not make kickass music toring big heavy hearts or MAY BE!
Ido not find the fine touch 'Guru' or 'Raavan' had - which 'Kadal', 'Mariyaan', 'Ranjhanaa', 'Lekar Hum Deewane Dil', 'I' did not. Musicians have fallen prey to a commercial-minded industry which only wants commercial success everywhere.
I do not want Rahman to not make commercially successful albums or work with directors who interfere with his work for their benefits. But he had clearly lost his track over a couple of years, for the music he does. I do feel bad when he just signs for a project looking at the makers. For the most innovative musician he is. For a kind of legacy he have had. For a fan I'm of his work - knowingly or unknowingly I had always admired his music, even as a kid. I still will. He is the best musician the country had ever had and possibly the one of the best musicians in the world. He's the man. Next one's gonna be kickass.
"Aye ajnabi tu bhi kabhi aawaz de kahin se,
Aye ajnabi tu bhi kabhi aawaaz de kaheen se...."
*Soulful music continues*
